K-300i Integrated Stereo Amplifier The
K-300i incorporates a newly developed amplifier circuit design with Krell iBias
technology that delivers 150 Watts/Channel into 8Ω and 300 Watts/Channel into
4Ω. iBias provides the sonic benefits of Class A operation without the excessive
heat and power consumption of traditional Class A designs. A 771VA transformer
with 80,000μF of capacitance forms a potent power supply for excellent signal
control and dynamics. Krell Current Mode topology is employed with fully
differential circuitry that runs from the input stage through to the last output
gain stage providing an extremely linear and extended frequency response curve
with smooth, effortless highs and extremely dynamic bass energy. Packed with
many of Krell's most musical-sounding technologies, the elegant chassis is
living-room-friendly. Yet it has enough power to achieve incredible, lifelike
dynamics with any speaker. The front-panel menu system provides configuration
features such as input trim. Theater Throughput mode lets the K-300i serve as
the core of a surround-sound system without sacrificing two-channel sound
quality. Analog Inputs include three stereo RCA and two stereo balanced XLR.
High-quality gold-plated speaker cable terminals provide a secure, electrically
ideal connection. The K-300i also offers features that make it perfect for
custom installation, such as RS-232 and Ethernet ports for control and status
feedback, 3.5mm jacks for IR input, and 12-volt trigger input and output.
Additionally, the unit has an internal web server that is optimized for tablets
and provides a remote graphical user interface for convenient and intuitive
control accessed through its Ethernet connection. With the digital option
installed the K-300i becomes a world class DAC with the connectivity and
features to support the latest digital music formats. An ESS Sabre Pro DAC
configured for high current output performs the digital to analog signal
conversion for uncompromised reproduction of digital music. A network streaming
audio renderer with dedicated mobile App plays AAC, ALAC, AIFF, FLAC, WAV, WMA,
and DoP files up to 192kHz/24-bit from UPnP music servers or NAS devices. The
digital option with the mconnect Control app (available in iOS and Android
versions) also provides Spotify*, vTuner Internet radio, Tidal*, Deezer*, and
QoBuz* streaming services, is Roon Ready* and decodes MQA. HDMI 2.0 inputs and
output supporting 4K UHD with HDR are available for TV viewing with audiophile
grade sound quality. A single USB host port is available on the front panel to
play music from USB flash memory sticks and a USB device port is positioned on
the rear panel for streaming music directly from a computer. The digital option
also includes a Bluetooth receiver featuring Qualcomm aptX audio technology
for the best sound quality when connected to aptX enabled Bluetooth devices. *A
subscription is required for these services. Updating the digital module
software may also be necessary depending on the vintage of the unit (see the
download area at the bottom of the page). **Krell highly recommends that users
of the mconnect Control app update to the latest version of the app (v2.4.1 or
higher for Apple devices and v2.3.7 or higher for Android devices). This fixes a
potential issue where getting a phone call while using the phone to play music
to the Digital Vanguard or Vanguard DAC could result in a large increase in
volume level. Keeping the mconnect Control app up-to-date also ensures access to
any new features and performance improvements. Qualcomm aptX is a product of

Illusion II Preamplifier The Illusion II is the
perfect centerpiece for a world class digital and analog audio system. Added to
the normal selection of balanced and single- ended inputs are five digital
inputs. The digital module features AES/EBU, coaxial, and optical digital inputs
for use with streaming devices or other digital sources. Circuitry
Highlights The Illusion II preamplifier is a dual monaural design with the left
and right channels afforded their own power supply regulation and individual
circuit boards. All signal gain is executed with surface mount technology using
proprietary multiple-output current mirrors with nearly 500 times the open loop
linearity of other designs. Featuring 700 kHz bandwidth in a zero feedback,
balanced, Krell Current Mode design, the Illusion II shares the same design
philosophy as its bigger brother, the flagship Illusion preamplifier. Negative
feedback is not used anywhere in the preamp, nor is it necessary. Open-loop
distortion is typically less than 0.003%. The volume control is realized with a
balanced resistor ladder - bandwidth and transient response of the preamp
circuitry are virtually unaffected by the volume setting. The headphone
circuitry is identical to the main circuitry, offering private listening with
the same performance as speaker playback. Digital Module Highlights The digital
module supports up to 24 bit/192kHz LPCM. All digital signals are fed to an ESS
Sabre DAC and then sent to Krells Current Mode, discrete, balanced analog
circuitry. Power Supply Highlights Oversized for a preamplifier, the power
supply features a 95 VA transformer and 40,000 F of capacitance giving it the
ability to respond quickly to musical demands. The large power supply improves
noise rejection and renders the Illusion II impervious to all but the most
severe AC voltage power fluctuations. A new eco-friendly standby mode reduces
power consumption to 2W. Illusion II Preamplifier Specifications Analog

Illusion Preamplifier The Illusion
preamplifier extends the Krell tradition of separating the power supply from the
audio circuitry in our flagship preamplifiers. Sharing the new Class A iBias
power amplifier aesthetic and featuring Krell CAST technology, the Illusion
preamplifier is the ideal match for the new Solo 375 and Solo 575 power
amplifiers. The optional crossover functionality offers the ability to use a
subwoofer/satellite speaker arrangement and still maintain the highest quality
sonic performance. Previous to the Illusion preamplifier, this system
configuration would require signals to pass through a subwoofers lower quality
crossover circuitry. The Illusion preamplifier is the centerpiece of a world
class audio system where space is at a premium Crossover Highlights Owing to
Krells work in the Modulari Duo Reference loudspeaker, the unique crossover
feature is a highly sophisticated option. When the optional board is present,
additional crossover menu items become available. Definable parameters include
independently assignable crossover frequencies and filter types for the high and
low pass sections. Choices include 40Hz, 55Hz, 75Hz, and 100Hz crossover points
with 12dB, 24dB, and 48dB Butterworth or 24dB Linkwitz-Riley style filters. The
high pass section of the crossover uses the full Illusion preamplifier circuitry
for its output stage.Circuitry Highlights
The Illusion preamplifier is a dual monaural circuit design with the left and
right channels afforded their own power supply regulation and individual full
chassis sized boards. All signal gain is realized in surface mount topology
using proprietary multiple-output current mirrors with nearly 500 times the open
loop linearity of other designs 1.5 MHz open loop bandwidth in a zero feedback,
balanced, Krell Current Mode design terminating in Krell CAST. A complete Krell
system (source, preamp, and amplifier) system, connected using CAST
interconnects reduces the number of voltage gain stages to the minimum, one. The
resulting noise floor approaches the theoretical limit of technology. Negative
feedback is not used anywhere in the preamp, nor is it necessary. Open-loop
distortion is typically less than 0.003%. The volume control is realized with a
balanced resistor ladder bandwidth and transient response of the preamp
circuitry are virtually unaffected by the volume setting. Power Supply
Highlights The Illusion audio circuits receive power from a Krell Current Mode
analog power supply housed in its own dedicated chassis. The power supply avoids
the common integrated circuit topology used in many preamplifiers and instead
mimics the design topology of Krell Evolution e Series amplifiers. The circuitry
is completely discrete giving it the ability to respond quickly to current
demands and also be unaffected by all but the most severe AC voltage power
fluctuations. Oversized for a preamplifier, the power supply features a 290 VA
transformer and 41,600F of capacitance. Locating the power supply in its own
chassis presents the ideal configuration for isolating stray electrical and
magnetic interference from the critical preamplifier signal path. Capable of
delivering current and voltage swing for any musical event, the Illusion power
supply is gentle on AC requirements when not in use. A new eco-friendly design
reduces standby power draw to 2W Illusion Preamplifier

Stereo Amplifiers Krell Class A iBias Technology
Krell's history is rich with breakthrough Class A amplifiers that have helped
build the Krell legacy of offering the best sounding amplifiers available.
Audiophiles have always considered Class A technology to be the best sounding
operating state for amplifiers. However, despite Class A's unrivaled sound
quality, it has fallen out of fashion because of recent demands to reduce power
consumption and heat in home electronics products. Krell engineering took this
challenge and redefined the meaning of high performance power amplifier. Our
goal - unmatched performance, elegant design, and a compelling array of features.
The breakthrough - a patent pending circuit delivering Class A operation without
the excessive heat and wasted energy of conventional designs, housed in a
striking new form factor, with network connectivity for advanced access and
monitoring. The sound is open and unconstrained, in a manner that rivals live
performance and the true sound of voices and instruments. Music and dialogue are
reproduced with a richness, detail, and startling dynamics that fill a room.
Plainly stated, Class A designs are the most musically accurate circuit topology
available. Class A amplifiers do not suffer from the inherent distortions that
all Class AB amplifiers experience. In a traditional Class A design, the output
transistors conduct full current at all times regardless of the actual demand
from the speakers. Often, only a fraction of this power is needed to reproduce
an audio signal at normal listening levels. The rest of the power is dissipated
through the amplifiers heat sinks, producing large amounts of wasted heat. With
Krell's iBias technology, bias is dynamically adjusted, so the output
transistors receive exactly as much power - but only as much power - as they
need. Krell's iBias Class A technology allows our latest amplifiers to run in
full Class A mode to full power while minimizing heat generation. Previous
efforts at using a "tracking" bias, while effective, only measured the incoming
signal and set bias levels from this information. Our new patent pending iBias
technology significantly elevates the effectiveness of previous designs by
calculating bias from the output stage. This seemingly small change in topology
results in a dramatic improvement in sound quality, especially midrange richness
and purity. The core of the technology is an innovative, patent pending design
for a dynamic intelligent bias circuit. Our iBias Class A circuit directly
measures the output current of the amplifier and adjusts the bias to the optimum
level. Because iBias Class A measures the output current, the real time demands
of the specific speaker connected to the amp are directly incorporated into the
circuit function. In addition, iBias Class A even reduces the bias when the
signal is at very low levels, making its operation undetectable by ear and even
by standard amplifier measurements. In sliding bias schemes, the circuit merely
estimates how much bias is needed based on the input signal and an "assumed
speaker load." Duo 175 2 Channel Power

Krell Class A iBias Technology Krell's
history is rich with breakthrough Class A amplifiers that have helped build the
Krell legacy of offering the best sounding amplifiers available. Audiophiles
have always considered Class A technology to be the best sounding operating
state for amplifiers. However, despite Class A's unrivaled sound quality, it has
fallen out of fashion because of recent demands to reduce power consumption and
heat in home electronics products. Krell engineering took this challenge and
redefined the meaning of high performance power amplifier. Our goal - unmatched
performance, elegant design, and a compelling array of features. The
breakthrough - a patent pending circuit delivering Class A operation without the
excessive heat and wasted energy of conventional designs, housed in a striking
new form factor, with network connectivity for advanced access and monitoring.
The sound is open and unconstrained, in a manner that rivals live performance
and the true sound of voices and instruments. Music and dialogue are reproduced
with a richness, detail, and startling dynamics that fill a room. Plainly stated,
Class A designs are the most musically accurate circuit topology available.
Class A amplifiers do not suffer from the inherent distortions that all Class AB
amplifiers experience. In a traditional Class A design, the output transistors
conduct full current at all times regardless of the actual demand from the
speakers. Often, only a fraction of this power is needed to reproduce an audio
signal at normal listening levels. The rest of the power is dissipated through
the amplifiers heat sinks, producing large amounts of wasted heat. With Krell's
iBias technology, bias is dynamically adjusted, so the output transistors
receive exactly as much power - but only as much power - as they need. Krell's
iBias Class A technology allows our latest amplifiers to run in full Class A
mode to full power while minimizing heat generation. Previous efforts at using a
"tracking" bias, while effective, only measured the incoming signal and set bias
levels from this information. Our new patent pending iBias technology
significantly elevates the effectiveness of previous designs by calculating bias
from the output stage. This seemingly small change in topology results in a
dramatic improvement in sound quality, especially midrange richness and purity.
The core of the technology is an innovative, patent pending design for a dynamic
intelligent bias circuit. Our iBias Class A circuit directly measures the output
current of the amplifier and adjusts the bias to the optimum level. Because
iBias Class A measures the output current, the real time demands of the specific
speaker connected to the amp are directly incorporated into the circuit function.
In addition, iBias Class A even reduces the bias when the signal is at very low
levels, making its operation undetectable by ear and even by standard amplifier
measurements. In sliding bias schemes, the circuit merely estimates how much
bias is needed based on the input signal and an "assumed speaker load." Compared

THEATER 7 XD 7 Channel Power Amplifier
100 Watt Amplifier Featuring Krell iBias Technology The amplifier design
uses Krell Current Mode technology that is fully differential and discrete in
the critical gain stages. This results in a highly linear and extended frequency
response, well beyond the range of hearing, for smooth effortless highs and
tight high impact bass. The power supply consists of two 787VA toroidal
transformers and 160,000uF of capacitance. This is shared among all the channels
so all of that power is available to the channels with the most demand. In real
world conditions the left, right, and center channels require the lions share
of the power so this gives the Theater 7 a more effective power supply than
other amplifiers that have smaller dedicated power supplies for each channel.

Ultra HD Processor
The Foundation 4K UHD Surround Sound Processor couples award winning Krell
preamplifier circuitry to the latest in HDMI technology to create the
centerpiece of a high performance home theater system. The Foundation 4K UHD
adds HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2 technology to the award winning Foundation processor.
Designed to be upgradeable, existing Foundation processors can be upgraded to
the Foundation 4K UHD platform at the Krell facility. The Foundation 4K UHD
updates 4 of the 10 HDMI 1.4a inputs to HDMI 2.0/HDCP 2.2 capability. New on
screen display functionality adds status messages including volume, active
source, video resolution and audio format. System setup is accomplished from the
front panel or a network tablet/computer.Additional functionality has been added
to the second HDMI output. The two HDMI video outputs are now independent and
can be configured to send different video signals to two individual displays.
Both outputs support 4K signals being simultaneously displayed. Both HMDI outputs
feature Audio Return Channel (ARC). With ARC, a display device is able to send
audio back down the HDMI cable to the Foundation 4K UHD. Televisions with
built-in web streaming capability like Netflix or Pandora, can send the audio
signal back to the Foundation 4K UHD use the full home theater system instead of
just the TV's speakers.Featuring the latest digital connectivity, the Foundation
4K UHD maintains Krell's exacting standards for analog audio reproduction. From
decoding the latest lossless audio formats, extensive digital switching, 3DTV
pass-through, and more, the Foundation 4K UHD is fully compliant with the
digital age. The 7.1-channel processor also features balanced audio outputs,
automatic setup and room EQ, and Krell's legendary robust hardware. A slim form
factor exudes the Krell aesthetic, while allowing placement in smaller equipment
racks. The Foundation 4K UHD features Krell's Automatic Room Equalization System
(ARES), to ensure the best possible performance from every theater. ARES
analyzes all the speakers in the system, their location, phase, and distance
from each other, to determine the best crossover frequency, delay, and more. In
addition, ARES incorporates the acoustics of the room to determine unique EQ
curves for each of the 7.1 output channels. Unlike other room EQs, ARES can be
programmed to only adjust the troublesome low frequencies, leaving high
frequencies unaltered. The Foundation 4K UHD includes a new Krell development -
Intelligent HDMI switching. Intelligent HDMI switching is a combination of
circuitry and innovative software that optimizes HDMI operation. Various
parameters including the monitor's electronic ID and source video resolution are
stored in non-volatile memory. All 10 source inputs are always active so source,
channel, video resolution, and audio format changes are instantaneous. The
Intelligent HDMI design provides the fastest signal recognition possible. The
Foundation 4K UHD passes video signals directly without any video processing,
ensuring bit-for-bit accuracy of the signal, up to 3840x2160. However, to
simplify cabling, setup, and use, there is full transcoding of the 2 composite
and 3 component analog video inputs to the HDMI outputs. Krell designed the
Foundation 4K UHD with flexibility and ease-of-use in mind, with extensive
routing capability of the audio inputs to the various outputs. During setup, the
specific paths will be chosen based on how the user intends to use each source,
displays, and audio output channels. The Foundation 4K UHD supports stereo and
multichannel DSD decoding via any of the 10 HDMI inputs. Playback options
include DSD 2-ch Direct, DSD Stereo, and DSD Multi modes. DSD 2-ch Direct
converts a stereo DSD signal to analog and directly passes it to the left and
right analog outputs. DSD Stereo first applies any left and right channel
crossover configured in the Foundation 4K UHD menu, converts the signal to
analog, and then sends it to the left and right outputs. DSD Multi supports
multichannel DSD recordings and utilizes all crossovers configured in the
Foundation 4K UHD menu. There is no configuration required as the Foundation 4K
UHD automatically recognizes a DSD signal and defaults to the last used DSD mode
for playback. Pressing the mode button on the remote control or web server
interface will cycle through all three DSD modes. The Foundation 4K UHD will
allow owners to take full advantage of the best audio soundtracks available,
with decoding of Dolby Digital, Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, DTS, DTS-ES
Discrete, Matrix, and DTS-HD Master Audio. In addition, a full suite of
post-processing modes are included, including Dolby Pro Logic IIx and DTS Neo 6.
Krell's proprietary surround modes, Party, General Admission, Front Row, and On
Stage, offer a different way to listen to favorite tracks. The Foundation 4K UHD
also offers features that make it perfect for custom installation, such as 3.5mm
jacks for IR input and 12-volt trigger input and output, as well as RC-5 and
optional rack-mount ears. Additionally, the unit can be controlled with home
automation systems via RS-232 or the Krell web server through its Ethernet
